Delegations to El Salvador

Delegations

“I had never been to a place like El Salvador.  This trip opened my eyes to a reality that I didn’t truly understand before.  I wish we could have stayed twice as long!  I am committed to coming back and doing what I can to help.”

Delegate, March 2005

Positive change is created by people who understand the problem and are committed to its solution.  By going on a Voices on the Border delegation, you can become one of those agents of change.

A Voices delegation is one of the best ways to see El Salvador.  On a delegation, you will learn about the harsh and joyous realities of Salvadoran life by staying in the homes of rural families, learning from community leaders, visiting churches, touring workplaces, and more.

Delegations build bridges of friendship and solidarity between the people of the United States and the people of El Salvador.  Groups in partner-community relationships visit their friends, college classes come for an educational enrichment experience, and people from all walks of life travel to El Salvador to meet courageous people and have a transformational experience.

“On the delegation, we affirmed our continuing commitment of friendship and solidarity with the people of Salinas El Potrero.  We are in it for the long haul.”

Groups that travel together develop strong bonds and healthy group dynamics, and the connection to the people they meet in El Salvador endures for a lifetime.

Delegations are usually about a week long and groups are kept small – generally less than ten people.  The cost is around $75 per day and includes all accommodations, food, translation, in-country transportation, and activities.  Airfare and immigration fees are not included.  No previous experience in Latin America is necessary, nor is proficiency in Spanish.

Contact Tanya at Voices on the Border if you are interested in joining a delegation, or if you would like to organize one.
