Mission

Voices' mission is to promote sustainable and equitable human development in El Salvador by supporting and connecting communities in the United States and El Salvador through mutually beneficial, long-term, community-based, partnerships, grassroots organizing, and accompaniment. In service of this mission, we have identified three goals:
  1. Assist local institutions and organizations to achieve community and regional development goals
  2. Collaborate with active and informed U.S. Partners
  3. Continue improving our own institutional capacity
To accomplish these goals, we seek to:
  • Increase levels of civic participation, ensuring that any marginalized sectors have an equal roll in creating and implementing development policies and plans
  • Strengthen partnerships and collaboration among community and regional partners, and other stakeholders
  • Foster greater transparency and professionalism among partners and stakeholders
  • Support local institutions and organizations in their efforts to advocate at the regional and national level for the policies and resource allocations that further their development goals
  • Assist U.S. partner communities achieve their mission and have a productive exchange with their Salvadoran counterparts
  • Provide U.S. partners and others in the U.S. with information about current events and issues in El Salvador

"We plant seeds that will one day grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.

We lay foundations that will need further development.

We provide yeast that produces effects beyond our capabilities.

We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.

This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.

It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for God's grace to enter and do the rest.

We may never see the end results but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders, ministers not messiahs. We are profits of a future not our own."

Archbishop Oscar Romero
