Nueva Esperanza - home to some 100 families, most of whom were refugees in Sandinista-era Nicaragua during the war. Nueva Esperanza's relatively advanced infrastructure includes schools from pre-K to advanced education, a library and computer center, a church (extensively damaged by the 2001 earthquake), and a community building for meetings and activities. There is also a small community health clinic, community corn grinder, community run guesthouse, a small sewing co-op, and a bakery.
